We've run subscription businesses at scale. Now we build them for independent media.
Malahide Studio was founded by Stephen Han, who led subscription infrastructure at Vox Media for The Verge and New York Magazine.
Stephen Han
Stephen Han founded Malahide Studio after leading subscription infrastructure at Vox Media, where the platform behind The Verge and New York Magazine served 15 brands and $50M in subscription revenue. He took its uptime from 99% to 99.99%.
What that means for you
We know what makes subscribers join, stay and leave, because we've watched it happen across millions of accounts. We build systems that keep taking payments when traffic spikes. And we measure everything, so decisions come from cohorts and retention.
That experience runs through all of what we help with, from subscriber retention to subscription revenue, and through the guides we publish.
How the studio works
A small core owns strategy, quality and every client relationship. Specialist designers, writers and engineers join each engagement as it needs them. We use modern tooling heavily so that more of your budget goes into the product.
Every engagement starts with a fixed-scope review of your audience and content, and most continue with us designing, building and running what we recommend.
The name
Malahide is a village on the coast north of Dublin. In the 1920s, the private papers of James Boswell turned up in Malahide Castle, one of the great literary finds of the century. Boswell was Samuel Johnson's biographer: the craftsman whose work made someone else's name last. That's the job we want.
